Projects: Educate
To Preserve
In the late
1800s, U.S. naturalist John Muir said, “We love only what
we know and we will preserve only what we love.”
Muir’s words hold true for birds of the tropics. We have
found that each encounter a person has with these beautiful
and intelligent creatures results in a profound and lasting impression,
and encourages interest in preservation. At Macaw Mountain where
most of our birds are rescued and/or unable to live in the wild,
they still have a powerful effect upon us and still have important
lessons to teach us.
| Because
many tropical birds are endangered, close to extinction,
or have limited habitats due to the encroachment of farming
and/or logging of the tropical forests, we are committed
to providing encounters, lasting impressions and educational
materials to work toward healthy populations of tropical
birds in their natural environment. |
