We
plan to initiate a breeding program for
the rarest of our birds (the Buffons Macaw or Great Green
Macaw (right), and the Yellow Lored Amazon). The Buffons
Macaw occurs in unknown numbers in Honduras' remote Mosquitia
region
while
the Yellow Lored Amazon is found in Honduras only on Roatan.
For many years, this small Amazon was actually thought to
be extinct on the island but in fact survives in very limited
numbers in the seaside mangroves.
